A card the automation broke: an underground-house feature, filed as a setback

The pull captured a Google News redirect and raw HTML instead of an article, then scored an architecture piece as friction. We are showing the failure rather than deleting it.

This card is here as evidence, not as news. Our automated pull captured an item titled "Underground House of the Future rekindles the past to probe tomorrow's habitats" from a Google News feed, stored the Google redirect rather than the publisher's URL, and stored an unparsed HTML fragment where the summary should be. It then classified the item as KNOWLEDGE and scored it as friction.

All three of those are wrong in ways that are worth writing down. The subject is architecture, so the pillar is SHELTER. An exploratory design feature about subsurface dwelling is not a setback, so the direction is forward. And the stored link cannot be resolved by our fetcher, which means no brief can honestly describe the underlying piece at all — we can tell you what the pipeline captured, and nothing more.

This is the sixth consecutive day the site has run without its editorial curator, and the failure modes have been accumulating in public: a lexicon that matches substrings, a sector classifier that defaults to KNOWLEDGE when nothing matches, and a fetcher that treats an aggregator redirect as a source. We could delete the broken cards and publish a tidier day. We think the more useful thing, on a site whose entire argument is that you should check the receipt, is to leave them up scored at 1 with the fault described. An automated day should show what the automation got wrong.
