MANY MINDEDA Manila Courier Tests Battery-Swap Scooters for City Deliveries
Philippine logistics firm JRS Express and mobility startup Voltai finalized a pilot partnership in March to bring electric motorcycles and battery-swapping into last-mile delivery in Metro Manila. Real-world testing began on July 16. Rather than selling vehicles outright, Voltai leases its bikes and batteries under a monthly subscription model.
The mechanism is built around swapping instead of waiting to charge. Voltai's AP01 motorcycle carries two batteries with a combined range of 140 kilometers, and a rider can exchange depleted batteries for charged units in under a minute at one of 15 swap stations across the city — sited at locations including Cleanfuel retail stations and MyTown co-living properties. The company calls it the largest specialized two-wheel EV swap network in the Philippines, and a mobile app lets operators track utilization, battery health, and vehicle location. Stations are said to charge during off-peak hours.
For delivery in a dense, congested emerging-market city, the appeal is running cost and uptime. Subscription leasing removes the upfront price of a vehicle and battery, and minute-long swaps keep riders working instead of idle at a charger — both of which could lower the cost of moving parcels the final mile. Cheaper, more reliable last-mile logistics touches how affordably goods reach people.
What to watch is whether the pilot scales. The companies did not disclose how many units are in the test, and gave no timeline for a broader commercial rollout. Claims about satisfaction and operational flow are early reports from a participating company, not independent results.
