MANY MINDEDA teaser hints BYD may show a humanoid robot in August
A teaser poster from a BYD experience venue in Zhengzhou suggests the automaker may debut a humanoid robot in early August. The post appeared on the WeChat account of BYD's Di Space science education venue, a local channel rather than the company's main official platform, and BYD has not confirmed any timing or product details.
The context makes the hint plausible. BYD set up a dedicated embodied-AI team at the end of 2024 under its 15th Business Division, and plans an open robot platform producing both in-house and co-developed machines. An executive vice president said last month she hopes every BYD store will eventually be staffed with two or three robots. BYD-backed robotics firm PaXini raised over 1 billion yuan in March at a valuation above 10 billion yuan.
The abundance angle is competitive pressure. BYD built its reputation on driving down EV costs through vertical integration; if it applies the same manufacturing discipline to humanoids, it adds to a crowded Chinese field—Xpeng aims for mass production of its Iron robot by year-end, Chery's Aimoga is already selling to consumers, and SAIC-GM has deployed wheeled humanoids on an assembly line. More entrants competing on cost is how general-purpose labor machines get cheaper.
What to watch: this is speculative. The teaser came from a local venue account, BYD has confirmed nothing, and even a reveal would likely be a prototype far from the price and reliability needed for real deployment.
