MANY MINDEDBYD and Malaysia's Bus Cap agree to localize electric bus production
BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Bus Cap Berhad signed an exclusive memorandum of understanding on August 18, 2026 in Shenzhen, aiming to establish electric bus manufacturing facilities in Perak, Malaysia. This follows BYD’s prior assembly of electric buses in Malaysia using pre-assembled components and aligns with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap. BYD reported 8,139 commercial new energy vehicle sales in July 2026—a 149% year-on-year increase—while Bus Cap Berhad is a listed Malaysian bus manufacturer. This move reduces transport emissions and creates local jobs through cleaner bus production.
The partnership directly advances transport emissions reduction and economic resilience in Malaysia. By shifting from imported components to local assembly, it lessens reliance on foreign vehicles while scaling clean transport capacity.
