China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has approved Geespace's commercial satellite IoT trial application for a two-year period. The trial leverages Geespace's 64 GeeSAT satellites in low Earth orbit—operational at approximately 600 kilometers altitude—to provide global coverage excluding polar regions. This constellation processes about 340 million communication requests daily and has already delivered over 20,000 mass-produced in-vehicle satellite terminals. Geespace's system supports low-data-rate transmission for location and sensor data only, not conventional internet access, and is being deployed on maritime law enforcement vessels and fishing boats in Zhejiang province.
The mechanism relies on Geespace's existing infrastructure: 64 operational satellites targeting 72 in the first phase, partnerships with telecom operators across 20+ countries, and direct agreements like its January 2026 cooperation with Pakistan's Paksat. This enables low-cost, real-time monitoring of remote areas where terrestrial networks are scarce—critical for disaster response and resource tracking.
For SUSTENANCE and GOODS, this trial moves abundance by reducing connectivity costs for critical infrastructure monitoring. Remote communities and disaster zones gain faster access to location data and sensor feeds without requiring expensive ground networks. The system’s focus on low-data transmission makes it viable for resource-constrained environments where high-bandwidth internet is impractical.
