Chip recovers net energy from waste heat in early prototype
Hannah Earley, 31, cofounder and chief technology officer of Vaire Computing, developed a chip with a patent-pending resonator that recovers more energy than it loses after accounting for power consumption. The technology, rooted in reversible computing principles first proposed over 50 years ago, began hardware development in winter 2022. Vaire Computing raised more than $12 million in funding and aims to rebuild computing hardware using these principles. Industry expert Igor Markov describes the technology as early stage, noting it requires 'a series of increasingly realistic and convincing demonstrations' for commercialization.
