Graphics cards in Japan are about to cost 20 to 40% more

CFD Sales, a Japanese distributor, has signalled that Gigabyte graphics cards will cost between 20% and 40% more, with the increase starting this month. The report names no cause and quotes no individual model prices.

This is a small item that belongs to a large pattern. Consumer computing hardware is the one cost curve in this project's set that is currently running backwards, and today's feed carries three separate instances of it: this, AMD reporting gaming revenue down 31% on prices weighing on demand, and Microsoft deleting its own 32GB memory recommendation while shipping 8GB laptops. Under CONNECTION, devices and hardware sit alongside connectivity as a need — and a graphics card is not a luxury in a world where local model inference is the main alternative to renting intelligence by the token.

The honest framing is that we do not have the mechanism from this source.
