Hyundai Motor Group launched AllDayEnergy, a global vehicle-to-everything (V2X) energy service that pulls the group's existing offerings under a single identity. It spans three capabilities: Smart Charging (V1G), Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H). The rollout begins in the UK through the Kia App with V1G smart charging, with planned expansion to Europe, the US, and Korea. Services will be reachable through Hyundai and Kia vehicle apps, and the effort is headed by Woong Tae Hwang of the group's EV Energy Strategy Group.
V2X enables bidirectional energy flow, so an electric vehicle can act as a mobile storage battery. The group already runs pieces of this in the field: a V2G pilot in Korea's Jeju province, V2H emergency household backup deployed during US wildfires, and V2G plus smart charging in the Netherlands that responds to dynamic electricity prices.
The abundance angle is resilience and cost. A parked EV holds a large battery that mostly sits idle; letting it feed a home during an outage or discharge to the grid at peak prices turns that idle capacity into backup power and grid flexibility. That lowers the cost of household energy security and can help balance a grid absorbing more renewables — without building dedicated storage.
