Labcorp opens a consumer gene test screening for 100-plus conditions

A 163-gene direct-to-consumer panel from Labcorp assesses inherited risk for cancers, heart disease and more starting August 3.

Labcorp is launching the Marker by Labcorp Genetic Health Panel, a direct-to-consumer genetic test that analyzes 163 genes and assesses risk for more than 100 hereditary conditions. Coverage spans multiple cancers, cardiovascular disease, and neurological, muscular and metabolic conditions, plus information on medication response and athletic-performance traits. The test becomes available August 3 through Labcorp OnDemand.

This is Labcorp's first major consumer genetics product since it acquired Invitae's portfolio in 2024. Specimens are collected via blood draw at Labcorp patient service centers, with results delivered through the company's patient portal and its MyLabcorp AI mobile platform. Licensed genetic counselors are built into the testing experience, which distinguishes it from send-away kits with no clinical follow-up.

The move pushes preventive genetic screening toward the mass market. Labcorp cites its own figure that nearly 1 in 6 adults carry inherited risk for a serious, medically actionable condition and that roughly 90% are unaware. If those numbers hold, early risk information could shift care toward prevention for a large group of people who would otherwise learn of a condition only after it appears. That is the abundance argument — making risk knowledge routine rather than rare.

Watch pricing, uptake, and whether the genetic-counselor integration keeps results interpretable rather than alarming. The prevalence statistics and the preventive benefits are Labcorp's own claims, and a risk panel screens for probability, not diagnosis — how consumers and clinicians act on ambiguous results will decide whether the test helps or just adds noise.
