Megasol's anti-glare coating standardizes solar roof usability
Megasol has made its ZRM+ anti-glare surface standard for all Level Up solar roof modules, a microstructured glass coating developed by the company itself. Level Up modules launched in November 2025 and report luminance at steep solar angles ranging from 3,000 to 18,000 cd/m², with a separate claim of 29,000 cd/m² at 70° angle of incidence. However, Bern University of Applied Sciences found ZRM+ luminance levels below 20,000 cd/m² across tested solar angles—suggesting the coating maintains glare outside critical ranges regardless of sun position. The coating also provides a uniform velvety matte finish and supports the modules' hail resistance (Class 5) and rain tightness standards.
This design addresses a key barrier to solar adoption: glare-induced visual obstruction that can deter installation in residential settings. By standardizing a surface that reduces glare without compromising the modules' efficiency (exceeding 200 Wp/m²) or structural resilience, Megasol aims to improve usability without requiring additional cost or energy inputs.
For households, this means solar roof installations become more practical in glare-prone environments—potentially increasing adoption where sunlight visibility matters most. The coating’s ability to maintain usability across varying sun positions could lower installation friction for residential solar, especially in regions with high solar incidence angles.
What to watch: The Bern University assessment details remain unspecified, and Megasol’s luminance claims require independent validation against real-world installation conditions.
