Nio’s battery swap network delivers 1.19 million swaps in single week

Nio’s battery swap network delivered 1.19 million swaps in one week during China’s National Day celebrations, completing 22% more swaps per day than the prior year.

Nio performed 1,192,221 battery swaps across 4,100 stations during the week of October 1–7, 2026, with 175,000 users completing swaps on a single day. The swaps consumed 24.83 million kWh of electricity and completed in 3 to 5 minutes per transaction. This represents a 22% daily average increase over the same period in 2025, occurring amid National Day celebrations in China.

The system directly addresses range anxiety in regions with sparse charging infrastructure by enabling rapid EV recharging without lengthy stops. Unlike traditional gas stations, battery swaps allow vehicles to recharge in minutes while maintaining high throughput across multiple locations. This mechanism makes EVs viable for daily use in areas where grid charging is impractical or unreliable.

For mobility access, this scale of swaps demonstrates how EVs can become a practical transportation option where conventional charging networks are absent. By reducing the time and infrastructure barriers to EV adoption, Nio’s model could expand affordable electric vehicle access in rural and remote communities where gas stations are scarce. The energy consumption figure (24.83 million kWh) also shows the system’s operational efficiency at scale.

Data reflects a report released October 10, 2026. The week’s performance occurred during a specific holiday period, which may not be replicable under normal conditions.
