Nova Scotia launched its second competitive procurement round for the Green Choice Program on September 10, 2026, seeking approximately 350 MW of new renewable generation capacity to supply 1,200 GWh of annual electricity. The program, administered by Power Advisory LLC, targets industrial and institutional customers to purchase clean power directly from the provincial grid at contracted rates ranging from CAD 63.62 ($45.72) to CAD 66.43 per MWh. Project selection is expected by May 2027, with the round building on the first procurement (2023) that selected two wind projects totaling 262 MW. This round maintains wind as the primary focus while operating under Nova Scotia's Renewable Electricity Regulations and its Clean Power Plan, which aims for 80% renewable electricity and full coal phase-out by 2030.
The procurement mechanism enables large industrial customers to access renewable electricity at predetermined prices through the provincial grid, supporting the province's transition to wind and solar generation by 2030. This directly advances industrial energy affordability and grid resilience in Nova Scotia, with the program's scale and technology neutrality accelerating clean energy adoption in manufacturing and critical infrastructure. The round also advances sustainable energy security by diversifying industrial power sources through renewable procurement.
Key caveats include that 2023-selected wind projects are expected online by end-2028, and the Clean Power Plan targets 2,000 MW of combined wind/solar/battery storage by 2030. Industrial cost benefits depend on project completion timelines and the program's ability to maintain competitive pricing.
