Personalized mRNA vaccine plus immunotherapy lowers melanoma recurrence in phase III
A phase III trial called INTerpath-001 tested a personalized mRNA cancer vaccine, intismeran autogene, in patients after surgery for high-risk melanoma. Given with pembrolizumab, it lowered the risk of recurrence or death by 42% compared with pembrolizumab alone. The results were presented at ESMO Congress 2026 as Abstract LBA1, and The ASCO Post reported them on Oct 28, 2026.
If the result holds up, it would be a late-stage case that a treatment built for one patient's tumor can beat the current standard of care. That matters for health because individualized therapy could, in principle, extend to other cancers. The source gives no sample size, confidence intervals, safety data or survival figures, so the strength of the result can't be judged here. The detail sits with The ASCO Post and the ESMO presentation.
