Six Flags Magic Mountain installs 12.37-megawatt solar carport
Six Flags Magic Mountain installed a 12.37-megawatt solar carport in Valencia, California, using 22,908 RECOM bifacial panels across 36 structures. The system covers 637,000 square feet, shades 4,315 parking spaces (including 3,544 guest and 771 employee spaces), and includes 109 EV charging connectors and a 2 megawatt/8 megawatt-hour battery storage system. Construction began November 2023, with the project expected to generate 20.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. It targets 100% offset of annual electricity consumption for Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor Los Angeles, remaining connected to Southern California Edison.
This installation represents a scalable renewable energy solution for high-traffic venues by repurposing existing parking infrastructure for dual energy generation and charging. The system’s size and integration with battery storage address both immediate operational energy needs and grid stability for large venues.
For energy access, this reduces operational costs for major entertainment facilities while demonstrating how renewable adoption can be practical in high-traffic areas. The dual-use parking infrastructure shows how energy projects can simultaneously serve visitor needs and reduce carbon footprints without new land use.
What to watch: Whether this model scales beyond two parks and how grid integration affects the project’s long-term reliability. The annual output is projected, and the system only offsets electricity for Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor Los Angeles.
