Tesla's Semi electric truck set for European debut

Tesla will unveil its electric freight truck specifications and European launch plans at IAA in Hannover next month

Tesla will debut its Semi electric truck specifications and European market strategy at IAA Transportation in Hannover, Germany on September 15-20, 2026. The vehicle offers two models: a Standard Range truck with 325 miles (523 km) range priced at $260,000 in the U.S., and a Long Range variant with 500 miles (800 km) range at $290,000. Both models use an 800-kW tri-motor drivetrain capable of 1,072 hp and charge at up to 1.2-MW speeds. Tesla has already begun high-volume production at Gigafactory Nevada, targeting 50,000 units annually.

This represents a significant step toward freight electrification in Europe, where competitors like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Scania already offer electric trucks. However, European pricing and range figures remain unconfirmed, and the market already includes established competitors with existing service networks. The Semi’s current high cost and unproven European rollout strategy mean it will likely remain accessible only to large freight operators initially, not the broader economy. For now, it advances freight electrification but faces friction in scaling to mass adoption across Europe.
