Yamaha's NMAX E puts a 125cc-class electric scooter on the 2027 European roster
Yamaha has revealed the NMAX E, an electric version of its NMAX sport scooter. It is a 2027 model aimed at the European market. Yamaha positions it as a 125cc-equivalent machine, a step above its low-speed urban electric scooters.
Power comes from a new compact eAxle unit that drives the rear wheel by belt. The motor is rated at 6.7 kW (9 hp) nominal and 7.5 kW (10 hp) peak, with 33.3 Nm of torque. The battery is a fixed 3.5 kWh lithium-ion pack, mounted low and centrally in an L shape. Yamaha claims up to 104 km (65 miles) on the WMTC Class 1 cycle. An onboard 800W charger takes a household outlet or an AC Type 2 public station, and a full charge takes about 5.5 hours. The scooter has Sport, Touring and Eco modes, regenerative braking, traction control and ABS. It carries an A1 licence classification.
Why it matters: the 125cc class is how many people in European cities get a cheap, licence-accessible vehicle. An electric option that plugs into a wall socket and needs no fuel stops moves everyday mobility toward cheaper running costs. Here the benefit is still potential, not demonstrated. Yamaha has made no cost-reduction claim, and the sheet gives no price.
Watch for the price, the launch markets and any published top speed, none of which Yamaha has announced. The range figure is Yamaha's own test-cycle claim, and the battery is fixed, so it cannot be swapped out. Real-world range and the price against the petrol NMAX will decide whether this widens access or stays a premium option.
